"The Virtual All-For-One Museum" is a multimedia interactive artwork featured in the "Symbiotic Future" section of the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale China Pavilion. This innovative artwork delves into the nuanced intersection of urban landscapes, historical preservation, and cutting-edge technology. By utilizing virtual reality, it reimagines how fading urban environments and historical narratives can be intricately recalled, preserved, and presented in profoundly immersive and dynamic forms.
The virtual museum tells the life story in the hutongs of old Beijing. The entire domain of Hutong, including its buildings, roads, retails, festivals, ceremonies, and life, is presented in the virtual time and space. Visitors experience as elderly residents who have lived in the Hutong all their lives, where the youths of history and present-day youths echo each other. The operation of cultural heritage today is closely connected to the past, yet constantly exhibits new features. Memoirs of figures such as Zhao Heng and Liang Shuming from the old days, along with architectural records of old spaces, are finally combined in the virtual museum.
“虚拟全域博物馆”是2023威尼斯建筑双年展中国馆 “共生未来”版块的一个多媒体交互作品。流逝的都市和历史如何通过新的技术实现更加丰富形式的追忆、保存与再现？未来的人们如何更多维度地展开生活，包括在虚拟现实中获取文化遗产的知识、获得游览文化遗产的别样乐趣、以更低碳却又更丰富的方式感受人类璀璨文明？在中国馆“更新•共生”的展览主题下，作品选取北京东四街区，以虚拟现实的媒介形式，连接历史与未来，打破实体模型、照片等传统建筑展览形式，以全新的视角与叙事方式讲述宜居的中国故事。作品在威尼斯展览现场以影像装置的形式呈现，与此同时，意大利的参观者与中国观众可以同时在线上体验作品的交互版本。这一展品也作为一个数字人文的实践，探索了城市的建筑与人文作品、数字艺术表达之间的交叉学科领域，扩张建筑与人文交叉知识的界限、品质、受众和影响。这一作品使得一种新形式的博物馆成为可能——没有边界的、具有全域数据的、具备新的学术使命的虚拟博物馆。
虚拟博物馆铺陈了一条延展于北京旧城胡同中的生命历程。胡同的全域，包括其中的建筑、道路、商业、节庆、仪式、生活，都在虚拟的展示时空中呈现。参观者变身一生居住于胡同的老人，笼罩着的历史中的少年与如今身边的少年交相呼应，文化遗产的今日运转与旧时有着千丝万缕的传承，亦时展新颜。旧时间的赵珩、梁漱溟等人的回忆文学，与旧空间的建筑档案，终于被结合于虚拟博物馆中。
